Nursery Care

Nursery facilities and staff are available for during Sunday school, worship services and special programs.  Our nursery is located downstairs close to the facilities and church kitchen.

Our nursery staff has attended safety training and consented to background checks.  We always schedule 2 nursery workers during our morning worship service.

Age appropriate toys are provided.  Children may attend the nursery until they are ready for children's church.

NEVER STOP MAKING PANCAKES

Six -year-old  Brandon  decided one Saturday morning to fix his parents pancakes. He found a big bowl and spoon, pulled a chair to the counter, opened the cupboard and pulled out the heavy flour canister, spilling it on the floor.

He scooped some of the flour into the bowl with his hands, mixed in most of a cup of milk and added some sugar, leaving a floury trail on the floor which by now had a few tracks left by his kitten.

Brandon  was covered with flour and getting frustrated.. He wanted this to be something very good for Mom and Dad, but it was getting very bad.

He didn't know what to do next, whether to put it all into the oven or on the stove and he didn't know how the stove worked! Suddenly he saw his kitten licking from the bowl of mix and reached to push her away, knocking the egg carton to the floor.. Frantically he tried to clean up this monumental mess but slipped on the eggs, getting his pyjamas white and sticky.

And just then he saw Dad standing at the door. Big crocodile tears welled up in  Brandon  's eyes.. All he'd wanted to do was something good, but he'd made a terrible mess. He was sure a scolding was coming, maybe even a spanking. But his father just watched him.

Then, walking through the mess, he picked up his crying son, hugged him and loved him, getting his own pyjamas white and sticky in the process!

That's how God deals with us.. We try to do something good in life, but it turns into a mess. Our marriage gets all sticky or we insult a friend, or we can't stand our job, or our health goes sour.

Sometimes we just stand there in tears because we can't think of anything else to do. That's when God picks us up and loves us and forgives us, even though some of our mess gets all over Him.

But just because we might mess up, we can't stop trying to "make pancakes" for God or for others. Sooner or later we'll get it right, and then they'll be glad we tried.  NEVER stop "making pancakes!!"

The Price of Children

 Here is something absolutely positive for a change. The government recently calculated the cost of raising a child from birth to 18 and came up with $160,140.00 for a middle income family.  Talk about price shock!  That doesn't even touch college tuition.

 But $160,140.00 isn't so bad if you break it down.  It translates into:
* $8,896.66 a year,
* $741.38 a month,
* $171.08 a week.
* A mere $24.24 a day!
* Just over a dollar an hour.

Still, you might think the best financial advice is: don't have children if you want to be 'rich.' Actually, it is just the opposite.

What do you get for your $160,140.00?
* Naming rights. First, middle, and last!
* Glimpses of God every day.
* Giggles under the covers every night.
* More love than your heart can hold.
* Butterfly kisses and Velcro hugs.
* Endless wonder over rocks, ants, clouds, and warm cookies.
* A hand to hold usually covered with jelly or chocolate.
* A partner for blowing bubbles and flying kites.
* Someone to laugh yourself silly with, no matter what the boss said or how your stocks performed that day.

 For $160,140.00, you never have to grow up. You get to:
* finger-paint,
* carve pumpkins,
* play hide-and-seek,
* catch lightning bugs,
* never stop believing in Santa Claus.

You have an excuse to:
* keep reading the Adventures of Piglet and Pooh,
* watch Saturday morning cartoons,
* go to Disney movies, and
* wish on stars.

You get to frame rainbows, hearts, and flowers under refrigerator magnets and collect spray painted noodle wreaths for Christmas, hand prints set in clay for Mother's Day, and cards with backward letters for Father's Day.

For a mere $24.24 a day, there is no greater bang for your buck. You get to be a hero just for:
* retrieving a Frisbee off the garage roof,
* taking the training wheels off a bike,
* removing a splinter,
* filling a wading pool,
* coaxing a wad of gum out of bangs, and
* coaching a baseball team that never wins but always gets treated to ice cream regardless.

You get a front row seat in history to witness the:
         * First step,
         * First word,
         * First date,
         * First time behind the wheel.

You get to be immortal. You get another branch added to your family tree, and if you're lucky, a long list of limbs in your obituary called grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  You get an education in psychology, nursing, criminal justice, communications, and human sexuality that no college can match.  In the eyes of a child, you rank right up there under God.  You have all the power to heal a boo-boo, scare away the monsters under the bed, patch a broken heart, police a slumber party, ground them forever, and love them without limits, so one day they will, like you, love without counting the cost.  That is quite a deal for the price!

Love & enjoy your children & grandchildren & great-grandchildren!

It's the best investment you'll ever make!!!!!!!!!

every passing day

We all want to pass our values on to our children.  We want them to grow in understanding of who God is.  But there are so many things to do!  Nearly every moment seems to be taken up with feeding, bathing, transporting and tending our kids.  Who was extra time (or extra energy) to teach them about God?

First, remember that we are teaching children about our values every minute of every day.  Our reaction to any situation - the irritating store clerk, a child's skinned knee, the broken dishwasher - all powerfully teach our children something.   Planned teaching times have far less impact on young children than what they wee and hear from us as we live our lives!  Here are a few simple ways to pass on your faith in those busy moments.

v   Riding in the car or walking to the park provides the perfect opportunity to play simple games.  "Let's look for things God made that are yellow."  After you've worked together to spot as many things as you can, comment, "Thank You, God, for making yellow!"  Or ask, "What things did God make that are wet?"  Then say a brief prayer to thank God for water.

v   As you drive, give baths or pick up toys, it's easy to sing simple songs that will remind you and your child of God's love.  (If your child does not yet have a CD or cassette of Sunday school songs, you can easily get one at a Bible bookstore or a discount store, like Wal-Mart or Target).

You are the most powerful teacher your child will ever have.  Ask god to help you use that power wisely!

As you water a plant, invite your child to help you.  Ask:

            What color is this plant?

            What are some other things God made that grow?

Things to talk about:

            What are some ways we use water?

            What is your favorite place we go where there is water?

Words to pray together:

Dear God, Thank You for (repeat place your child mentioned).  We like to play in the water You made.  We love You!  In Jesus' name, amen.
