Here is the latest update from the Killion family. The Killions were here in August with their children to share their work in Thailand. They moved to Thailand, to work with the Maraat family, in December 2008.
Dear Family & Friends, Greetings in the Lord from Chiang Mai, Thailand! As we prepare to enter a new year, our family is having many new experiences as we settle in to life in the "Kingdom of Smiles." Here’s a brief overview of the past few weeks.
Shortly after arriving in Chiang Mai on December 9, we began looking for a house to rent. With the help of fellow TCM missionaries, Genesis and Verna Maraat, we quickly found several potential homes. After about 4 days we moved into a partially furnished house located in a primarily Thai neighborhood. Thanks to the small size of our muubaan (housing village), our kids can freely play outside and we’ve already met several of our new neighbors, such as the Vandemoortele family (which is not a Thai name, by the way). Peter (who is Belgian), his wife Noina (a Thai) and their 4-year old daughter Amelie (who speaks Thai and English) live just down the street from us. Our kids love playing with Amelie and we’ve become friends with Peter and Noina.
A real provision of the Lord was a vehicle for our family. We prayed to find something under $10,000 and God answered with a low-mileage, 4-door pickup for $8200. Learning to drive on the left side of the road and shifting gears left-handed has certainly been a new adventure!
On Christmas day the Maraats came to our home, along with Ching, a Filipina nanny and friend of the Maraats, our landlord, Thanagorn (whose nickname is "M") and his fiancée, Naam. It was new to celebrate Christmas in 75° weather without any turkey, but still a blessing to be with friends as we rejoiced in the birth of our Savior. What’s more, we were able to share with M and Naam why we celebrate Christmas, a holiday known only by name to many people throughout Thailand (read this Time article for more info). Our first Christmas in Thailand Here are some things you can be praying for in the coming few weeks:
Continued growth in our friendships with Peter, Noina, Thanagorn & Naam and that their hearts would be open to the Gospel.
The full adjustment of our children to our new life, especially Matthias as he enters 1st grade at Grace International School on January 5.
Our study of the Thai language and culture at Cornerstone Language School which also begins on January 5. We greatly desire to learn the language so that we can get to know more of the people in our community who speak little or no English.
Thank you for your faithful prayers for our family and ministry. We trust you will be encouraged and strengthened by the living and true God as you enter 2009!
Grace & peace, Nathan & Jessica Killion Romans 15:21

UPDATE from the ZUBER FAMILY -- missionaries in Tanzania. You may remember that the Zuber family had their entire cargo shipment stolen after arrival. It took months and thousands of dollars to recover most of that shipment. This is Chad's Christmas update.
"Hail Jesus you are my King....." The students sang as they filed into the church. I love hearing my Tanzanian students using their new language to sing praises to our God. As they entered I was amazed by the number. Amazed by how good they all sounded. Amazed more that we were starting on time. Well almost....
After singing they prayed the Lords prayer in English. Then the massive crowd of students found a seat at the front. I looked out at my students from the stage and was so proud of my students. Students came from far off villages. They came from the wealthy areas of town. they came from the poorest neighborhoods. The differences were obvious as you looked across the audience at the students that were finely dressed and those who wore the same shirt that they wore each day as they studied with us. But all were given a chance to learn. Many from each of these categories of village poor, city poor and city wealthy made a real effort. 5 students (And I am thrilled to say 2 of which were orphans) received scholarships to study with us for free at our new school for outperforming the others.
One parent compared his 7th grade child with his daughter who had already studied in English for 4 years of highschool after only 3 months of English training.
Another was shocked when he read his daughters words in English inviting him to the graduation party.
Another parent and our guest of honor said that he was shocked when he was traveling and called home on the phone. He had an entire conversation with his child on the phone in English. He said that when she came to English course she could only say a few greetings.
Many more students collected forms to enroll into our new secondary school opening January 12! I will write a new years email about that project.
For now work doesn't slow down and snow doesn't fall. Besides the little tree in the corner of our living room there are few signs of our traditional Christmas. But wherever we are and in whatever season we are thankful for a God who came to us. Loved us so much that he traded his heavenly home for a trough. Limited himself to a human form in order to open us all into something so much greater. Life in Him.
It is that saviour we praise and hail as king.
